Futures Company London - Staircase Feature
The Initial Brief
An upgraded office space has been completed for a Futures company in the heart of central London, enhancing the working environment for its employees. As one of the final elements of the project (case study to follow), a feature staircase was installed, spanning three floors of the space.
The Design
A standout feature of the project, the staircase starts on level 5 and ascends to level 7.
Timber flooring was chosen to complement the neutral wood tones throughout the building, while metal cladding and aluminium framework provide a striking contrast to the raw wood.
Precise alignment was a key requirement in the brief. Project Manager Jenny Pape worked closely with our design team to ensure it met the client’s expectations.
In collaboration with Dalesman Fabrications, our team integrated our specialist joinery with their custom metalwork.
Glass flutes, fitted between the aluminium slats of the staircase, were coated with a vinyl film to achieve a reeded effect. The frosted glass enhances privacy while allowing natural light to permeate the space.
The Finer Details
A key feature of this staircase is the kinetic lighting display suspended in the centre. Collaborating with Acrylicize, a multidisciplinary studio that provides custom art to enhance spaces, bespoke lighting was installed. This automated system was designed to harmonise with the staircase’s environment, adjusting in height and colour to reflect the mood and time of day.
The most challenging aspect of the project was the setup phase during installation. It was essential that the flooring, framework, and glasswork aligned perfectly, both for functional purposes and visual appeal. This intricate process required careful attention to ensure everything was set with precision.
Overall, the project had a straightforward concept and was relatively simple to execute. We are thrilled with the final outcome and had the privilege of collaborating with Structure Tone and Scott Brownrigg to bring the client’s vision to life.
