History.
Tradition.
In 1947 John Thomas Thorpe (affectionately known as Jack) founded a one-stop shop in South Leicestershire, servicing the needs of the local community with any challenge they could throw at him.
Cupboards, tables, even boats were hand-made in the workshop as the company grew and Jack’s reputation began to spread.
in 1955 Jack was joined by the second Thorpe (and second John) in 1955, with the company now trading as JT Thorpe & Sons.
A New Direction.
John C Thorpe, our current Group Managing Director took over the company in 1991, and after several years of successful trading in education and laboratory fit-out across the world, decided to take the company in an entirely new direction.
Now trading as Thorpes of Great Glen, the brave decision was taken to refocus the company into a new market: high-end commercial fit-out. John’s aim was for Thorpes to work with some of the country’s leading architects, designers and main contractors on a range of projects, whilst keeping to our core values that had provided such a strong foundation in the past.
Those values stood us in good stead heading in to this demanding sector, and we soon developed a reputation as a truly specialist joinery contractor, growing in stature, capability and experience, working for a host of household names.
Following 18 successful years in the market the decision was taken by our new-look management team to not rest on our laurels and instead, to attempt to build once more upon our reputation in a landmark move.
Rebranding as Thorpes Joinery, we amalgamated multiple sites, divisions and even companies under one roof as we sought to maximise efficiencies, increase in stature and provide the best possible specialist joinery service for our clients.
